The U.S. reached the debt limit on May 16, 2011, but the US Treasury Department employed certain measures to temporarily extend government’s ability to meet the nation’s obligations. The measures adopted were suspending issuance of State and Local Government Series (SLGS) Treasury securities; declaring a “debt issuance suspension period” of the Civil Service Retirement and Disability Fund (CSRDF); suspending reinvestment of the Government Securities Investment Fund (G Fund); and suspending reinvestment of the Exchange Stablization Fund. Yet, all these measures did not provide permanent solution and hence, the US government requested the Congress to enact a timely increase of the debt ceiling so as to prevent a default on the nation’s obligations.

Indian Government to Allow Cotton Exports up to 55 Lakh Bales in 2010-11 Textile Industry Associations Decide to Oppose the Move and go on one-day Token Strike
In the year 2010-11, India would allow export of cotton effective 01 October 2010 up to 55 lakh bales only.
