India’s Apparel Exports to the EU Marginally Up in Jan-Dec'07, China Finished its Upward Rally Clocking 15.65 % Growth Suits/etc. for India & Pakistan, Ladies’ Blouses for Bangladesh, T-shirts for China and Foundation Wear for Sri Lanka - High Growth Products
During Jan-Dec’07, Indian apparel exports to the EU recorded just 0.74 % from € 3.81 bn to € 3.83 bn, despite having posted a growth of 5.55 % in volume terms from 226.58 mn kg to 239.17 mn kg. While India’s knitted apparel exports during the period increased 5.85 % from € 1.80 bn to € 1.90 bn, exports of woven apparel were down 3.85 % to € 1.93 bn from € 2 bn.

EU Apparel Import Market Expands 5.06 % in Jan-Sep 2007 Substantial Import Growth for Ladies’ Blouses, Leg wear and Men’s Shirts
EU Apparel Imports from Extra-EU27, during the period Jan-Sept 2007, amounted to € 44.36 bn, posting an increase of 5.06 % over € 42.22 bn of Jan-Sept 2006. Imports of knitted apparel, during the period, jumped 6.12 % to € 20.85 bn, while for woven apparel, the imports jumped 4.14 % to € 23.51 bn as against € 22.57 bn. In volume terms, the growth was much higher not only on overall basis but also individually in knitted and woven apparel segments, which clearly shows decline in average import values.

India Posts just 0.24 % Apparel Export Growth to the EU in Jan-July'07
Taking a look at the EU apparel imports from India and its immediate competitors in the region, it is noted that India and Pakistan have registered, during Jan-July’07, marginal growth of 0.24 % and 0.78 % respectively, while Bangladesh could not even match its previous year’s performance. However, Sri Lanka posted a significant growth of 7.64 %.
