Polyester Staple Fibre manufactured out of PET Scrap and Waste Bottles is Textile Material
In order to curb divergent practices being adopted in respect of classification of the “Polyester Staple Fibre” manufactured out of PET scrap and waste bottles by its various field formations, the Central Board of Excise & Customs in India has clarified that this product is correctly classifiable under heading 55032000 and not under Chapter 39 as an article of plastic.

Another bout of interest rate increase with appreciation anticipated: FIEO
Commenting on the latest update of RBI, A Sakthivel, President, Federation of Indian Export Organizations (FIEO) stated that while the credit off-take was stagnant for the last month or so at around 21.3 % vis-à-vis 15.2 % in the corresponding period last year, the off-take has been primarily due to the telecom auctions & advance tax payments.

Indian Government Issues Revised Instructions to Restrict Import of ‘Worn Clothing’
Upon noticing that ‘worn clothing’, the import of which in India is restricted under ITC(HS) since October 2004, are still being imported unauthorizedly in large numbers and also that the same are being allowed clearance by Customs on payment of nominal fine and penalty resulting in adverse impact on domestic clothing industries in India, the Central Board of Excise and Customs has reiterated that such imports should be adjudicated and fine in lieu of confiscation and penalty imposed keeping in view the ‘margin of profit’ on such unauthorized import.

Stimulus Phase-out to Moderate Manufacturing Growth in Q2: FICCI Survey

Indian Apparel Export Growth Show 4.94 % Decline in Jan-Feb 2010 to the US
Other South Asian Suppliers too Post Negative Export Growth

Indian apparel exports to the US dipped 4.94 % at $ 521.62 mn in Jan-Feb 2010. In volume terms too, its exports showed a negative growth of 0.84 %.  In the cotton, MMF and silk/veg fibre segments, Indian apparel exports recorded negative growth both in terms of value and volume, while in wool segment, positive growth of 0.31 % was registered.

China Continues Occupying 1st Position in the List of Top Apparel Suppliers to the US in Jan-Feb 2010 for all product categories except 332 and 638
India Retained 2nd Position for 336, 341 & 342, While Bangladesh attained 2nd rank for 340

The analysis of product-wise imports from Top-5 vis-à-vis India shows China having attained the top position in all the product categories except 332 and 638, for which it was the second largest supplier.
