While announcing the annual supplement 2010-11 to the Foreign Trade Policy 2009-14, Indian Commerce & Industry Minister, Anand Sharma stated that, “We are on course to achieve the export target of US$ 200 bn in the fiscal 2010-11 and over the remaining 3 years of Policy, we should be able to come back on the high export growth trajectory of 25 % per annum and by 2014, we expect to double India’s exports of goods and services.”

Refund of 4% CVD (SAD) by re-crediting the DEPB/Reward Scheme Scrips
On consideration of representations received from the trade and industry that existing EDI facility does not allow re-credit of the amount of 4 % CVD refund sanctioned in respect of DEPB and various other reward schemes and as a result, a large number of refund claims are held up in different customs houses, the Central Board of Excise & Customs of India has decided that registration of re-credited duty scrips issued by DGFT on the basis of consolidated certificate furnished by Customs will be allowed on manual basis.

India Lifts Control on Cotton Exports, TEA Urges Government to Lift Restriction only in January 2011
The Government of India, upon review, has decided to lift controls on cotton exports, doing away with the requirement for Indian exporters to obtain licences for exports from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).

Indian Customs Begin 24 x 7 Operations at Seaports
In order to implement the recommendations made by the Task Force of the Department of Commerce, Government of India, the Central Board of Excise and Customs, India decided to make available customs operations available on 24 x 7 basis at identified 14 customs locations.

Negative Growth Narrows in US Apparel Imports in Jan-Feb'10
Imports Continued to expand only from China, Vietnam and Honduras out of the list of Top 10 Trading Partners

US import statistics pertaining to apparel products show increasing trends in volume terms, while the value of imports is still in negative. The import volumes have gone up at the end of February in the current year by over 8 % from 3.18 bn m2 to 3.46 bn m2, whereas the value of imports are down 0.86 % from $ 10.17 bn to $ 10.09 bn when compared with the same period data of the previous year.

Indian Apparel Exports to Canada in Jan-Feb 2010 dipped 21.1 %
Among other South Asian suppliers, Pakistan and Sri Lanka Post positive Export Growth

In Jan-Feb 2010, India and Bangladesh posted negative growth, with exports touching $ 47.78 mn (-21.1 %) and $ 97.56 mn (-2.6 %) respectively, while Pakistan and Sri Lanka registered positive growth of 1.8 % and 13.3 % at $ 10.19 mn and $ 10.03 mn respectively.
